My Cherie amour
Born as Stevland Hardaway Morris, Stevie Wonder may not have been a rock star, but he is undoubtedly the king of soul and one of the most influential musicians of the century. Born premature, he became visually impaired since early infancy but he was truly a musical prodigy.
Starting as a professional singer from the age of 11, he had been bestowed with numerous awards. With 25 Grammy Awards, 3 consecutive albums bagging “Album of The Year” in mid seventies, with more than 30 US Top Ten hits, his feat is virtually impossible to be surpassed. Also a political activist, charity founder, anti-racism brand ambassador, AIDS campaigner, philanthropic human being, he is not only multi instrumentalist, but definitely a virtuoso in himself.
“My Cherie amour”, the title track from his eleventh studio album in 1969, it is one of his most enduring ballads. The album is prelude to his more successful albums of the seventies, but it did have numerous noteworthy numbers, of which the title track is the most outstanding one.
A hit number featuring on the musical charts all over the world, the song was revived when it was chosen for the soundtrack of the Cameron Crowe musical film “Almost Famous” in 2000. The song begins with catchy keyboards and horns, soon to be followed by Wonder’s mesmerizing voice. A relatively short song, it indeed is a song which stays in our hearts immediately. A simple ballad, praising the beauty of the beloved, the song does not have any guitar solo, but you would hardly realize it.
The magical composition filled with horns, soft guitars, bass, drums, violin, it proves how sometimes, a song with no prominent guitars, may also qualify as a classical soft rock ballad!Stevie Wonder, no wonder, is a musical genius credited with numerous hits and wonderful numbers. However, when you try to look for the hidden gems, “My cherie amour” is one prominent song which sings out how wonderful Stevie Wonder can be…… Happy listening!!!

My cherie amour
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
My cherie amour, lovely as a summer day
My cherie amour, distant as the milky way
My cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore
You’re the only girl my heart beats for
How I wish that you were mine
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
Maybe someday, you’ll see my face among the crowd
Maybe someday, I’ll share your little distant cloud
Oh, cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore
You’re the only girl my heart beats for
How I wish that you were mine
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la
