For anyone who is into rock, AC/DC requires no introduction. AC/DC is the most successful band to have emerged from Australia. Formed in 1973 by the Young brothers Malcolm and Angus, they have always proved themselves to be a true hard rock band despite numerous line-up changes. Their hallmark sound, the thundering beat drums, unique vocals of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson, the prototype school uniform worn by Angus and his unique guitar style, all add to their glory. With untimely accidental death of the singer Bon Scott due to heavy alcohol consumption overnight in 1980, the band had almost called it the day. However due to Scott’s parent’s persuasion, they rolled in Brian Johnson as Scott’s replacement and continued. Today, they are considered as one of the most successful and well respected heavy metal acts of all time. They have been ranked fourth by VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock” and seventh by MTV’s “Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time”. Still going strong, their fan followers are increasing day by day.
“Gone shootin’” is a thundering number from their fourth album “Powerage”, released in 1978. This album is considered as least successful albums of Bon Scott’s era, however, the album does deserve true respect from the loyal fans. Considered as favorites by Keith Richards and Malcolm himself, this album did represent the band’s growth as well as maturity following “Let There Be Rock” in 1977.
The song starts with the drums and a haunting bass with strong guitar riff. The lead guitar joins in then and the beat carries on passionately. Bon’s voice then adds on to the song and drives it into complete frenzy. The song is a hard rocking one -typical of AC/DC. The lyrics of the song are quite elusive and equally impressive at the same time. Although it appears simple, it perhaps bears deep meaning; and thus the song’s interpretation can be numerous, depending upon the listener’s perception. The lead guitar by Angus is again so well suited to the song that nobody can remain unaffected listening to it. The fading lead guitar at the end part is also equally mesmerizing.
Despite the fact that AC/DC have got numerous wonderful numbers, “Gone shootin’” is definitely a 100% AC/DC number, and a jewel for any true AC/DC fan!!!
Happy listening!!

Gone shootin’
Feel the pressure rise
Hear the whistle blow
Bought a ticket of her own accord
To I dunno
Packed your heart in a travellin‘ bag
And never said bye bye
Something missing in the neighbourhood
Of her cryin‘ eyes
I stirred my coffee with the same spoon
Knew her favourite tune
Gone shootin‘
My baby’s gone shootin‘
Like a second skin
I took an offer in another town
She took another pill
She never made it past the bedroom door
What was she aiming for
Gone shootin‘
She’s gone, gone gone gone Gone shootin‘
My baby’s gone shootin‘
Gone shooting, how am I gonna get her down
Gone shooting, look out, look out, look out
Gone shooting, she can hurt someone
Gone shooting, yeah she sure is loaded
Gone shooting, she’s gone gone gone gone, she’s gone
Gone shooting
