Poco might sound odd to many rock fans, but they were the pioneers who paved the pathway for a completely entire genre – Country Rock in the early seventies. Yes, The Eagles were the brand of Country Rock, but it was Poco who began the journey of Country Rock. Founded after the break up of Buffalo Springfield in 1968, Poco comprised of Riche Furay (Vocals and Rhythm guitar), Jim Messina (Lead Guitar and Vocals), Rusty Young (Pedal steel guitar and vocals), Randy Meisner (Bass and Vocals) and George Grantham (Drums and vocals). They were initially named Pogo (Pogo comic strip character) but changed it to Poco after the Pogo creator Walt Kelly threatened to sue over the name. Despite various line up changes, they have been touring till present and have had numerous hit numbers to their credit.

“Crazy love” is the most successful single by Poco, taken from their thirteenth album “Legend”, released in 1978. This song was written and orchestrated by Rusty Young. It was ironic that Rusty was more of an instrumentalist in Poco rather than a songwriter. However, “Crazy love” was one of the first songs he had written for Poco and interestingly, this also was the biggest hit by the band. Although it was released in 1978 in the “Legend” album, it was later released as a single in January 1980 and became the most successful Poco single to date.
The song humbly starts with fine guitar plucking. Rusty Young’s painfully soulful vocal gives magical touch to the song. The first two stanzas continue in the same acoustic manner with fine guitar plucking and Rusty’s mesmerizing voice. Only in the second half of the song, soft bass and drums joins and gives a very soft beat to this wonderful ballad. The additional background chorus in the song is also equally captivating. A plainly romantic heart breaking ballad, the song describes the emotions of a lonely lover. A very short song, standing not even close to 3 minutes, it melts away so smoothly into our hearts and minds. Undoubtedly, so masterfully crafted, this amazing ballad slowly fades away in the end with Rusty’s fine vocals.
Yes, Poco has been the pioneer of the Country Rock genre and have given us numerous noteworthy numbers. “Crazy love” is one of those cherished gems which requires any listener for one listen to fall in love with this song crazily forever!!!
Happy listening!!

Crazy love
Tonight I’m gonna break away
Just you wait and see
I’ll never be imprisoned by
A faded memory
Just when I think I’m over her
This broken heart will mend
I hear her name and I have to cry
The tears come down again
It happens all the time
This crazy love of mine
Wraps around my heart
Refusin’ to unwind
Ooh, ooh crazy love
Ahhhh haaa
Count the stars in a summer sky
That fall without a sound
And then pretend that you can’t hear
These teardrops comin’ down
It happens all the time
This crazy love of mine
Wraps around my heart
Refusin’ to unwind
Ooh, ooh crazy love
Ahhhh haaa
Tonight I’m gonna break away
Just you wait and see
I’ll never be imprisoned by
A faded memory
It happens all the time
This crazy love of mine
Wraps around my heart
Refusin’ to unwind
Ooh, ooh crazy love
Ahhhh haaa
Tonight I’m gonna break away
