Purple rain
Born Prince Rogers Nelson, Prince is undoubtedly a true rockstar, a fabulous musician and a guitar virtuoso. In his four decaded musical career, he became famous for his music, lifestyle, fashion and everything else.
With more than 100 million records sales worldwide, he had been endowed with many awards and accolades and is ranked 27 on The Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
“Purple Rain”, the title track from his eighth studio album in 1984 with his official backing band “The Revolution”, remains his musical pinnacle. The soundtrack for the movie of the same name, it charted world wide and established him commercially, musically as well as won him Grammy Awards.“Purple rain” is the title song from the album, and one of the most famous of the prince’s catalogue of hit list. It is an amazingly built power ballad, with electronic keyboards and drums, gospel orchestral music, tender acoustic guitar, and masterpiece guitar solo.
Originally intended to be a country song, this ballad is an absolutely emotional, powerful, charismatic as well as beloved. It stormed the charts all over the world and become his signature song.
It is a song with the theme of walking along with your loved one during the hard times. Initializing with acoustic guitar and soft keyboards, the song builds up the emotional tempo slowly over the next three verses. Built almost 9 minutes long, this is a song which proves that the length of the song could be immaterial, when your ears are completely immersed into it.
The climax of the song is the last solo by prince, which definitely proves his mastery over the instrument. Yes, Prince has numerous signature songs, but “Purple rain” is the one song for which he shall always be remembered, even in heaven…..Yes, he has travelled through the purple rain into the sky forever….. Purple rain
I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you bathing in the purple rain
I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend, yeah
Baby, I could never steal you from another
It’s such a shame our friendship had to end
Honey, I know, I know, I know times are changing
It’s time we all reach out for something new, that means you too
You say you want a leader
But you can’t seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it and let me guide you to the purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain, yeah, yeah!
Purple rain, purple rain, woo!!
If you know what I’m singing up here
Come on, raise your hand, Purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you,
Only want to see you in purple rain
