Fox on the run
“Sweet” is considered one of the main British bands in the seventies which were the early forms of glam rock or pop metal of the following decade. They had it all, the hits, the music, the melody, the charm, and the sound, but somehow, they could not materialize their fame and success and faded out slowly over the next decade. Although the surviving members occasionally continue their tours, their heydays of the seventies could never be repeated.
Originally formed in 1968 in UK as “Sweetshop”, with Brian Connolly (Vocals), Mick Tucker (Vocals, drums), Steve Priest (Bass) and Frank Toprey (Guitars), they changed their name to “Sweet” in 1970 and later, Andy Scott replaced Toprey on guitars. During their most productive years, they had numerous hits, like “Funny, funny”, “Blockbuster”, “Hell raiser”, “The ballroom blitz”, “Teenage rampage”, “Little Willy” etc.
They might not have been the power houses of the seventies rock, however, their contribution to glam metal and pop metal can never be underestimated.“Fox on the run” is one of their most popular numbers, which is taken from their 1975 album “Desolation Boulevard”. The song was previously recorded in 1974 with slightly more rock version in European version of the album, but the version which became more popular was this second single version, produced in Capital Records version of “Desolation Boulevard”.
“Fox on the run” is a song about an attractive lady “Fox”; one of the groupies. It’s a prototype glitter rock song, with catchy tune, and hard driving rhythm guitar and meticulously used synthesizers. The song starts with an interesting synthesizer sound, followed by Brian’s charismatic vocals.
The song displays Andy Scott’s versatility over guitars and synthesizers which complement each other perfectly. Mick Tucker’s drums and additional double lead vocals by Steve Priest are also impressive, suiting the song perfectly.
Along with the synthesizer, a short guitar solo by Andy in the middle is also skillfully executed. Overall, a perfect primitive glam rock song at its best!“Sweet” was definitely a sweet band of the seventies which literally gave sweet rock numbers.
With so many hit numbers to their list, one of the most impressive is “Fox on the run”, which literally makes the fan run after them forever……Happy listening!!! Resources- Wikipedia.org, allmusic.com
Fox on the run
I – don’t wanna know your name
‘Cause you don’t look the same
The way you did before
Okay – you think you got a pretty face
But the rest of you is out of place
You looked alright before
Fox on the run
You scream and everybody comes a running
Take a run and hide yourself away
Fox is on the run
F-foxy
Fox on the run
And hide away
You – you talk about just every band
But the names you drop are second hand (second hand)
I’ve heard it all before
I – don’t wanna know your name
‘Cause you don’t look the same
The way you did before
Fox on the run
You scream and everybody comes a running
Take a run and hide yourself away
Fox is on the run
F-foxy
Fox on the run
And hide away
F-foxy
Fox on the run
You scream and everybody comes a running
Take a run and hide yourself away
Fox is on the run
F-foxy
Fox on the run
And hide away
(Fox on the run)
(Fox on the run)
(Fox on the run)
(Fox)
