Gimme some lovin’

The Spencer Davis Group is a relatively short lived British blues and rhythm and blues influenced rock band which has inspired generations of rock musicians. Formed in 1963 in Birmingham, England, by Spencer Davis (Guitar), the group consisted of brothers Steve Winwood (Vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Muff Winwood (Bass) and Pete York (Drums). They had few hits during their short career, but their music has left a permanent mark on the rock music of the seventies and beyond. With hits like “Gimme some lovin’”, “I’m a man”, “Keep on runnin’”, the Spencer Davis Group does deserve a special mention in the rock history.

“Gimme some lovin’” is one of their most famous hits. The song was released as a single in 1966 and later included in their compilation album. This short song was created in equally short period. As recalled by bassist Muff Winwood, the song was conceived, arranged and rehearsed in half an hour time, under pressure from their manager to produce a hit!

The song begins with a remarkably catchy bass, followed by Davis’ rhythm and York’s drums, and immediately followed by Winwood’s marvelous organ. Winwood’s vocals goes extremely well with gritty bass and organs. A short song describing a man’s hard day’s life and yearning for his love, the song resonates so well with all the working class men. The song has been covered by numerous artists and has been placed 247 on Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of all time!

It’s true that the Spencer Davis Group had a very brief career, but their few hits have kept them alive in the memories of the rock fans all over the world. Whenever a rock enthusiast says, “Gimme some music”, he or she should be given “Gimme some lovin”!Happy listening!!! Resources- Wikipedia.org, allmusic.com

Gimme some lovin’

(Hey!)
Well, my temperature’s rising and my feet left the floor
Crazy people knocking ’cause they’re wanting some more
Let me in, baby, I don’t know what you got
But you better take it easy, this place is hot
And I’m, so glad we made it
So glad we made it
You got, gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’

Gimme some-a lovin’

Gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’, every day

(Hey!)
Well, I feel so good, everything is getting higher
You better take it easy ’cause the place is on fire
It’s been a hard day and I hate to what to do

We made it, baby, and it happened to you
And I’m, so glad we made it
So glad we made it
You got, gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’

Gimme some-a lovin’

Gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’, every day
(Hey!)

(Hey!)

Well, I feel so good, everything is getting higher
You better take it easy ’cause the place is on fire
It’s been a hard day and nothing went too good
Now I’m gonna relax like-a everybody should
And I’m so glad we made it
Hey, hey, so glad we made it
You got, gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’
Gimme some-a lovin’ ooh, hoo!
Gimme some-a lovin’, hey hey
(Gimme some a-lovin’) Every day
(Gimme some a-lovin’) Every night
(Gimme some a-lovin’) Ooh, hoo!
(Gimme some-a lovin’) Gimme some a-lovin’ every day
