Cocaine

J.J. Cale (John Weldon J.J. Cale) might be an unfamiliar name for many, but ‘not so impressive’ rock star was indeed an impressive star for many rock stars, including Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler among others. It would be a surprise for many that he had originally written the hits – “Cocaine” and “After midnight” for Eric Clapton. If the stars were valued by the number of people who were impressed by their songs rather than the chart success and fortune, then Cale would perhaps top the list amongst few others. Born and raised in Oklohama, USA, he had learned to play guitar at an early age and had joined Air Force where he mastered his technical skills of sound, ultimately building his own recording studio. He started his career as a studio engineer, finally starting to make his own albums. Undoubtedly, Cale deliberately avoided the limelight, but he has been considered as one of the most important figures in the history of rock music.

You really got me

“The Kinks” is probably one of the most influential bands of the sixties who were the most notable ones among the groups during the British invasion. They had numerous hit singles in both US and UK, and they have records of selling more than 50 million records worldwide. They, of course, could not replicate the success of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones or The Who, and perhaps could not be as large as they could have been. Formed by the brothers Ray and Dave Davies in 1964, along with Pete Quaife (Bass, vocals) and Mick Avory (Drums), they underwent various names before calling themselves “The Kinks.” The members kept on changing, with the Davies brothers being the only permanent ones and they are surviving even today after various break ups and reunions.

“UFO” is a classic hard rock band formed in London in 1968. Creating classic hard rock numbers like “Shoot shoot”, “Rock bottom”, “Let it roll”, “Only you can rock me”, they have a cult status in the rock world. An intermediate bridge between early hard rock, heavy metal and new wave of British heavy metal, they are a perfect classic hard rock band. Formed by Phil Mogg (Vocals), Mick Bolton (Guitars), Pete Way (Bass) and Andy Parker (Drums), they were a small band to begin with. However, soon, with the addition of Michael Schenker from Scorpions, they drove to international stardom in the early seventies. With much line-up changes, over the next decades, they consolidated their success and they have been still going strong!

I want you to want me (Live)

Reviewers- Bikash Shrestha/Nirab Kayastha

“Cheap Trick” is a band which was an excellent remix of pop, rock, heavy metal and punk. Formed in 1973 in Illinois, this American band consisted of Robin Zander (Vocals), Rick Nielsen (Guitars), Tom Petersson (Bass) and Bun E. Carlos (Drums). Their self titled debut album in 1977 did not fare that well, but the second album “In Color” the same year was more polished and successful. Their commercial worldwide break through was resulted with their 1978 live album “At Budokan.” “At Budokan” was an unexpectedly successful album, recorded during their 1978 Japan tour. It was originally released in Japan only but later due to excessively high demand, it was released worldwide and became their most successful album ever. With various ups and downs, they have been constantly making music and touring all over the world, going strong till present date.

Tiny Dancer

Reviewers- Bikash Shrestha/Nirab Kayastha

“Elton John”, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, is one of the richest acts in the music industry. Born in Middlesex with troubled childhood, he was a musical prodigy as a child. He began his unique song writing partnership with Bernie Taupin in his early career and the duo became one of the most successful song writing partnerships ever which has lasted for more than 50 years. Undoubtedly famous for his numerous hits, extravagant stage shows, flamboyant lifestyle, proclaimed bisexuality and gay marriage, political controversies, along with love for football, charity work and AIDS foundation, he has definitely lived the life of a King!
