Screaming Lord Sutch (David Edward Sutch) was an English musician with deep influence and involvement in mainstream politics. He had stood for numerous elections (with record of losing more than 40 times in the elections that he stood!) and was also the founder of a political party. As a musician, he had worked with a variety of Guitar Gods including Jeff beck, Jimmy Page, Keith Moon, Ritchie Blackmore etc. Despite his associations with so many musical prodigies, he could never really make it big. However, he was famous for his horror themed stage shows and shock rock antics and numerous albums with his band “Savages”. One of his most famous single was “Jack the Ripper” which was covered by many bands including Link Wray, The White Stripes etc.
“Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends” is Lord Sutch’s debut album released in 1970 with an amazing line up. Interestingly, this album has been criticized as the worst album of all time in 1998 BBC poll, despite having associations with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, Jimi Hendrix Experience’s bassist Noel Redding, session keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, session guitarists Jeff Beck, Deniel Edwards etc. The all stars involved had misgivings upon its release and were of the opinion that the recording was of demo (?Poor??) quality and disowned it. Hence, the album failed terribly.
But strangely enough, “Cause I love you” is one amazing rock classic from this album. The song was written by John Bonham, Jimmy Page, Deniel Edwards and Lord Sutch. The song is perhaps a dream project for any rock enthusiast. It had Jimmy Page and Deniel Edwards on guitars, John Bonham (Led Zeppelin drummer) on drums and Lord Sutch put in the vocals. The song opens up with a slight screechy guitar, followed by dancing rhythm guitar, and then lead electric guitar swings in along with Bonham’s thunder continuously till the end. To enhance the overall tempo, simple, sweet and short lyrical vocals of David Sutch plunge in and decorate the song like a perfect jewel. There are very few lines in this short and sweet song and the repetition of the main chorus few times ends the show. In between, Jimmy and Deniel do their best on the fingers and John Bonham has also contributed tremendously to amplify this wonderful rock number. It is definitely a very short one and you just wish it to keep on getting extended. With less than three minutes at hand, you know when you have masters at hand, even less than three minutes is more than enough to make a mark in the history of rock music.
Although the song is perhaps under-rated as one of the songs from one of the worst albums of all times, when you consider it as a serious rock enthusiast, you wonder could this song be nominated as one of the best rock numbers of all time? Perhaps, it may be!!
Happy listening!!

Alright,
Oh, here we go,
Yeah,
Baby,
I love you,
You know I do,
I love you,
I’m honest I do,
I love you,
You know it’s true,
Ah, baby, baby, baby,
Set my poor my heart free,
Don’t you hear my plea,
Cause I love you,
I love you,
You know I do,
I love you,
With all my heart,
I love you,
From the start,
Ah, baby, baby, baby,
Win you from the start,
Please don’t steal my heart,
Cause I love you,
Alright, yeah.
Oh…yeah,
Oooh,
Cause I love you,
I love you,
You know I do,
I love you,
With all my heart,
I love you,
Out from the start,
Ah, baby, baby, baby,
Win you from the start,
Please don’t steal my heart,
Cause I love you,
I love you,
You know I do,
I love you,
I’m honest I do,
I love you,
You know it’s true,
Ah, baby, baby, baby,
Please don’t tease my heart,
Let my poor heart free,
Cause I love you.
