Just remember I love you

“Firefall” is a relatively unknown band for most rock fans. However, when we consider soft rock of the seventies, “Firefall” is an important name although they could never make it big! Undoubtedly, they could have gotten much farther than they have reached, but somehow, they just remained an undermined soft rock band. With wonderful melody, gentle beat and lover boy’s lyrics, many of their songs sway any rock fan smoothly. With songs like “Just remember I love you”, “Someday soon”, “You are the woman”, “Goodbye I love you”, “Only a fool”, “Love that got away”, “Sold on you”, to their catalogue, “Firefall” is a band to fall upon when you don’t have anyone to fall upon….

“Firefall” was formed in 1974 in Colorado, USA by Rick Roberts (Guitars and vocals), Jock Bartley (Guitars and vocals), Mark Andes (Bass), Michael Clarke (Drums) and David Muse (Keyboards, flute and saxophone). With their self titled debut album in 1974, they had a hit with the number “You are the woman”, which peaked up to no. 9 in Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. However, they are most well remembered for their second album “Luna Sea”, produced in 1977. This album had another hit number “Just remember I love you”. Till this point, they appeared to be quite promising, while touring as opening act for “Fleetwood Mac”. However, with subsequent mismanagement and internal band conflicts along with some bad decisions, they just became destined to go down. Though, with multiple line up changes and repeated break ups and reunion, the remaining members still do produce new music.

“Luna Sea” is their second album produced in 1977. A soft rock album packed with wonderful melody and memorable lyrics, this album defines the typical soft rock sound of the seventies. This album has considerable number of noteworthy songs, however, “Just remember I love you”, just steals the show.

The song begins with a soft rhythm guitar by Rick Roberts along with David Muse’s keyboards. With Rick Robert’s painfully sweet vocals, hooky bass by Mark Andes and along with soft drums by Michael Clarke, the song just shoots you with high voltage emotion and nostalgic romance. A soothing soft song consoling a lover when things are not going right, it truly is a teenager lover’s absolute fantasy! The backing vocals by Eagles’ Timothy B. Schmit is another highlight of the song. Jock Bartley’s lead guitar solo, in harmony with David Muse’s synthesizer is another truly remarkable feature of this wonderful ballad. David Muse’s haunting saxophone in between also adds bliss to the song.

Undoubtedly, “Firefall” may not be a rock fan’s favorite band, however, when we consider the seventies soft rock scenario, no serious rock fan can ignore them. And if in any doubt, just listen to their song “Just remember I love you” once, and just remember, you shall fall in love with “Firefall” again and again!!

Just remember I love you

When it all goes crazy and the thrill is gone
The days get rainy and the nights get long
When you get that feelin’ you were born to lose
Staring at your ceiling thinkin’ of your blues

When there’s so much trouble that you wanna cry
The world has crumbled and you don’t know why
When your hopes are fading and they can’t be found
Dreams have left you waiting, friends have let you down

Just remember I love you
And it’ll be alright
Just remember I love you
More than I can say
Maybe then your blues will fade away

When you need a lover and you’re down so low
Start to wonder, but you never know
When it feels like sorrow is your only friend
Knowing that tomorrow you’ll feel this way again

When the blues come callin’ at the break of dawn
Rain keeps fallin’, but the rainbow’s gone
When you feel like crying but the tears won’t come
When your dreams are dyin’, when you’re on the run

Just remember I love you
And it’ll be alright
Just remember I love you
More than I can say

Just remember I love you
And it’ll be alright
Just remember I love you

And it’ll be alright
Just remember I love you

And it’ll be alright

Just remember I love you

And it’ll be alright
