Nobody’s fool
“Slade,” the undisputed king of the British early glam rock era in the seventies, is a band which is famous for their numerous hit singles. Formed in 1966 in Britain, with Noddy Holder (Vocals), Dave Hill (lead guitar), Jim Lea (Bass, piano) and Don Powell (Drums), they had 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number one hits on the UK Singles Chart. They have been labelled the most successful British group on the basis of their singles sale. With many ups and downs, they are still going strong.Famous for their numbers like “Mama weer all craze now,” “Cum on feel the noize,” “My oh my,” their list of hit singles is actually too long to be mentioned here. From being inspirations for Nirvana to Def Leppard, from The Runaways to the Twisted Sisters, from Oasis to the Sex Pistols, Slade band members are famous not only for their music but also for their eccentric dressing sense and equally arresting misspelt song titles!!!
“Nobody’s fool” is one of their masterpiece from their sixth studio album “Nobody’s Fools” in 1976. Although the song failed them as a single, it does represent the prototype Slade number with catchy melody, vocals and lyrics. The song opens with Jim Lea’s striking piano, it soon follows Hill’s guitar and Holder’s magical vocals. The song is a simple love ballad describing the love for his mistress with the theme that love should not be taken casually and a loving person should not be taken for a fool. Short and sweet lyrics, nice and catchy riff with melodious lead in-between, this song definitely represents a typical Slade hit song.
Yes, Slade have numerous hits to their credit, but no fan should treat “Nobody’s fool” as just another hit, but consider it one of their numerous cool numbers!!!
