Morning dew

Jeff Beck is undoubtedly had remained, has remained and would remain a Guitar God. In his prolific guitar career spanning more than half a century, he collaborated with many well-respected artists and had been instrumental in seminal classic rock bands like “The Yardbirds.” After quitting “The Yardbirds”, he led and formed “The Jeff Beck Group” in 1967. The band had then unknown Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood on vocals and guitars respectively and had changing bass players and drummers. Soon Aynsley Dunbar became their drummer and Ron Wood switched to bass and the band became complete with Nicky Hopkins on piano.

The Jeff Beck Group produced very few albums with their debut album “Truth” being the most important as well as most successful one. Many critics consider this as one of the first true heavy metal albums whereas others consider this album the first heavy brand of blues rock albums. The album highlighted all the band members including Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, Nicky Hopkins and Jeff Beck of course and broadened all their future perspectives. The album consisted of mostly blues cover versions with few originals, however, it has remained the favorite and masterpiece guitar album for most future guitarists to follow. Many critics say Led Zeppelin were heavily influenced by their approach on this album!

“Morning dew” is one of the most remarkable songs in The Jeff Beck Group’s debut album “Truth.” Written by folk rock singer Bonnie Dobson, “Morning dew” is a song written about the fictional conversation between lovers following a nuclear catastrophic holocaust. The song had been covered by various artists including “Grateful Dead” and “Nazareth.” However, The Jeff Beck Group has turned this simple folk song into a highly complex psychedelic blues rock song with immemorable Jeff Beck’s wah wah guitar.

The song begins with fine Scottish bagpipes tune, and quickly dwelves with Ron Wood’s lingering bass and Beck’s rhythm guitar. With Rod Stewart’s huskily rustic voice, the song starts to catapult into a different frenzy. With side by side with Beck’s mesmerizing wah wah guitar, the song just keeps the listener more and more astounded. The soothing bagpipes, Beck’s yelling wah wah guitar, Wood’s hovering bass, Micky Waller’s exciting drum with rolls and fills, and Nicky Hopkins’ piano, all work in tandem with each other perfectly to create a psychedelic blues rock prototype masterpiece.Yes, Jeff Beck is gone but his virtuoso as Guitar God would always remain the same.

Morning dew may not be the song for which neither Jeff Beck nor The Jeff Beck Group would be remembered for, but this song definitely reminds us how powerful The Jeff Beck Group had been, regardless of whether it is morning, day or night forever! Happy listening!!!

Morning dew

Walk me out in the morning dew, my honey
Please, walk me out in the morning dew sometimes
Can’t walk you out in no morning dew, I’m sorry, I’m sorry
Can’t walk you out in no morning dew

Thought I heard a young man crying
Thought I heard a young man crying today
You didn’t hear no young man crying
You did not hear no young man crying

Thought I heard a young girl crying
Thought I heard a young girl crying
You, you did not hear no young girl crying
I’m sorry, but you know you didn’t
You did not hear no young man crying

Now there is no more morning dew
Now there is no more morning dew
What they’ve been saying all these god dawg years has come true
I knew it would too
Now there’s no more morning dew

Now there is no more morning dew, at all, oh
Now there is no more morning dew
Because, because, because what they’ve been sayin’
All these years has come true
That you know, and only you know
That there’s no more morning dew

Now, now there is no more morning dew
People, you know that there’s no more morning dew
Because, because, because what they’ve been sayin’
All these years has come true
You know that there’s no more morning dew
