 I found love

“Quicksilver Messenger Service” was conceived by singer/songwriter Dino Valenti in the mid sixties in San Francisco, USA. The group was completed with addition of his friends David Freiberg (Bass), Jim Murray (Vocals), John Cipollina (Guitar), Gary Duncan (Guitar) and drummer Greg Elmore. The group had numerous line up changes during their tenure and despite all the ups and downs, they are still continuing. Born in the arena of counter culture and harmonious psychedelia, they emerged as the main roots of the genre along with their contemporaries Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane. Of course, they did not achieve the success of the latter ones, they do have a cult following and have contributed tremendously in shaping the genre and have been an enormous source of inspiration for the later rock bands.

Dark eyed woman

“Spirit” – The late sixties band which became more famous for their lawsuit against Led Zeppelin for copying their instrumental “Taurus” in “Stairway to heaven”, actually deserve much more than that. A highly regarded rock band, with mix of jazz, folk, pop, art rock, progressive rock as well as psychedelic rock, have been an inspiration for many artists in the ensuing decades.

They have an intriguing history. Initiated in 1967 by Randy California (Guitars, vocals) and his stepfather Ed Cassidy (Drums), Randy was actually offered by then unknown Jimi Hendrix to follow him to England. However, Randy stayed back and formed “Spirit” with Mark Andes (Bass) and Jay Ferguson (Vocals, percussion). With charting albums in the late sixties and seventies, their most well known numbers include “Taurus”, “1984”, “I got a line on you”, “Fresh garbage” etc. The band continued to survive albeit with much difficulty and not so successful career. Except for their founding members, the band members kept on changing in the following decades and ultimately, the band ceased with the demise of Randy California and Ed Cassidy. However, new materials kept on surfacing till late.

I’m so proud

“Beck, Bogert & Appice” was the long cherished dream of one of the greatest rock guitar virtuosos – Jeff Beck. He wanted to form a super group of powerful trio with Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice since 1969. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the dream was finally realized only in 1973 after the trio toured together as Jeff Beck Group. There are people who like them, there are people who don’t, but there are no people who would not respect them. With subtlety of Bogert’s bass and thunderous novelty of Appice’s drums, Jeff Beck’s guitars could have catapulted the trio like anything; however, unfortunately, the band was dissolved eccentrically in 1974 by Beck after their only debut studio album and few tours and live albums.

I had too much to dream (Last night)

“The Electric Prunes” might sound not so familiar name in rock music world; however, the band is a cult early psychedelic and electric rock band which could not make it as big as they could have been. However, with only two charting singles to their name, they have left quite a mark in the early psychedelic scene during the late sixties. Formed from early surf rock cum garage rock band “The Sanctions”, they comprised of James Lowe (Guitars/vocals), Mark Tulin (Bass), Ken Williams (Lead guitars) and Michael “Quint” Weakley (Drums). Known for their psychedelic classics “I had too much to dream (Last night)” and “Get me to the world on time”, they disbanded after only two albums. However, with constant member changes, the band is still alive and kicking, with Lowe being the only original member present.

“Rod Stewart”needs no introduction to a classic rock fan-A singer, a poet, a rocker, fashion icon, glamour God-A total entertainer in all! With more than 250 million sales worldwide, he is one of the best selling music artists of all time. And the list of his hit singles could carry on forever. However, his association with the band “Faces” is another aspect which deserves an honorable mention. Starting his musical career in early sixties, he established himself successfully as a singer in “Jeff Beck Group” in 1967. In 1969, “The Small Faces” had disbanded following departure of vocalist Steve Marriott. After Stewart quitted Jeff Beck Group in 1969, he joined “The Small Faces” as singer along with Ronnie Wood. This line up with Rod Stewart (Vocals), Ronnie Wood (Guitars), Ronnie Lane (Bass), Ian Mclagan (Keyboards) and Kenney Jones (Drums) formed “Faces.”
