All right now

Reviewers- Bikash Shrestha/Nirab Kayastha

“All right now” is almost synonymous with “Free”. “Free” was an amazing English rock band formed by the quartet of super talented musicians – Paul Rodgers (Vocals), Paul Kossoff (Guitars), Andy Fraser (Bass) and Simon Kirke (Drums). They struggled a lot in the early years until their third studio album “Fire and Water” was released. It contained the most successful single of theirs – “All right now” and then, there has been no looking back. They were highly appreciated for their lively concerts and constant tours. They were considered as the pioneers of British hard rock. Paul Rodgers was ranked 55 in the list of 100 greatest singers and Paul Kosoff was ranked 51 in the list of 100 greatest guitarists of all times by “Rolling Stone” magazine.

Written by Fraser and Rodgers, “All right now” epitomizes the typical hard rock sound of the early seventies. The song was taken from their 1970 third studio album “Fire and Water”. This album is their most successful one and is worthy of any classic rock fans’ store. The song broke numerous records and has established “Free” as the band which could reach the cult status of bands like “Cream” and “Blind Faith.”

The song starts with the catchy guitar riff and steady drum beat. The bass, the riff, and the beat all in combo is bound to make any rocker go hysterical. Soon, there is Rodger’s incredible vocal joining in and then the song kicks in. The lyrics describing a girl is very catchy and impressive. The main chorus is equally captivating, which just flows with the riff. Right from Rodger’s voice, Kirke’s drums, Fraser’s bass and Kosoff’s guitar are a perfect blend in this number. The solo in the middle of the song is almost out of this world! After the second chorus ends, there is solo bass by Fraser which intermingles with the drums beat. To add to the beauty of it all, some piano chords are added by Fraser. Soon, Kosoff comes into action, and you are driven away into a completely different world. The solo is intricately woven and beautiful. Once it reaches the climax, then it lands you back into the chorus again. And you realize, wow, you have survived the amazing hell of a journey! Had Kosoff not died at the young age of 25 with pulmonary embolism, his cult status as a guitarist would have perhaps reached much higher. The song fades slowly at the end with the repeated chorus and Rodger’s sexy voice on top of it…

No doubt, the pioneers of British hard rock sound of the early seventies, “Free” has proven time and again that some single can become much more famous than the band itself. After all, actually, it’s all right now!!!!

Happy listening!!

All right now

There she stood in the street

Smiling from her head to her feet

I said hey, what is thisNow baby, maybe she’s in need of a kiss

I said hey, what’s your name baby

Maybe we can see things the same

Now don’t you wait or hesitate

Let’s move before they raise the parking rate

All right now baby, it’s all right now

All right now baby, it’s all right now

I took her home to my place

Watching every move on her face

She said look, what’s your game baby

Are you tryin’ to put me in shame

I said slow don’t go so fast

Don’t you think that love can last

She said love, Lord above

Now you’re tryin’ to trick me in love

All right now baby, it’s all right now

All right now baby, it’s all right now All right now baby, it’s all right now

All right now baby, it’s all right now All right now baby, it’s all right now

All right now baby, it’s all right now All right now baby, it’s all right now

All right now baby, it’s all right now
