Two guitar lovers

Dave Mason is a versatile guitar player with the entire career of a band member, session worker as well as a solo artist. Perhaps better known as the founding member of the band “Traffic”, formed in 1967, along with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood. However, his tenure in Traffic had been quite erratic. He left the band immediately after their debut album Mr. Fantasy in 1967. He came back again for their next album “Traffic” in 1968 and quitted again. It would be a surprise to many that he was a good friend of Jimi Hendrix and both had listened to Bob Dylan’s “All along the watchtower” together and recreated Hendrix’s version, along with Mason’s 12 string acoustic guitar. He has provided his guitar contribution to many artists including The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, Derek and The Dominos to name a few. He had few hit singles like “We juts disagree”, “Only you know and I know”, “Will you still love me tomorrow”, “Let it go, let it flow.” For many, Dave Mason is just another shadowed seventies’ musician. However, for those, who know him, his contribution to the seventies rock is just too immense and can never be undermined.

“Split Coconut” is Mason’s fifth solo album released in 1975, and perhaps one of the underrated albums. Some critics summarise this album as his hurried and hastened work. Nevertheless, the album is perhaps equally as good as any of Dave’s solo albums.“Two guitar lovers” is a prototype seventies melodious rock for which Dave Mason is recognized. The song was penned by Maureen Grey for Mason. A simple ballad, with poignant lyrics and melodious harmony, the song just moves any listener soothingly to a distant different world. And the dual lead guitar by Jim Kreuger and Dave Mason is just what is required to ice it on the top! The two intertwined guitars are apparent all throughout the song and makes the song so uniquely beautiful.Yes, Dave Mason has had few hit singles, and not so prolific musical career, however, some of his creations are remarkably sweet and everlasting, including “Two guitar lovers!” Anyone who listens to “two guitar lovers”, has to love this guitar song forever!! Happy listening!!! Resources- Wikipedia.org, allmusic.com

Dancing in the rain
It is uncovered

Over the time, it’s got its groove
Over the earth, sometimes they’re landing
Watch the waters move
Together with the

Playing in the sun
It is uncovered
While they’re having fun
Raising in firelight they see it

Saving on timings of the feeling heart
That’s so sublime
Gonna sing it for you

Two guitar lovers
Play it for me, play it for me

Two guitar lovers
Now they’re on the hill
Watching others
While they’re standing still
Seeing the changing situations
Over the time that’s passed them by
They’re on their own in their space stations
And sometimes they fly
