“Badfinger” might not be a familiar name to many rock fans, but it would be unjust to ignore their name in shaping the seventies rock music. Considered as one of the most tragically fated rock band who could always have skyrocketed, but sadly landed flat on the ground, they would always be remembered as one band whose two members had taken their own lives, following the troubles plaguing them. It would be really astonishing that the band which gave such hit singles as “Day after day”, “Baby blue”, “Without you” (Covered later by Harry Nilsson and then Mariah Carey) could not get the name and fame they so truthfully deserved.

Formed as “The Iveys” in 1961 in UK by Pete Ham (Lead guitar), Ron Griffiths (Bass guitar), David Jenkins (Rhythm guitar) and Roy Anderson (Drums), they underwent several name changes as well as line up and finally became “Badfinger” in 1969. They were the first group to be signed by The Beatles’ Apple Label. Although they had hit singles and toured extensively, they completely succumbed to internal conflicts, managerial issues and legal hassles.

“No matter what” is their one of the most well known singles, taken from their 1970 album “No Dice”. A relatively short and sweet number, this number is the prototype “Badfinger” trademark power pop number. The song starts with catchy guitar riff by Pete Ham, followed by his incredibly melodious vocals. Soon, Mike Gibbins drums and Tom Evans bass come into play. Beaded with a short and sweet lead solo in the middle, the song undoubtedly represents their zenith. One of their four hit singles, the song is always soothing and rocking at the same time.

“Badfinger” was actually a very good band with very bad fortune, but no matter what, the melodious numbers which they have given us is always memorable, no matter what!!Happy listening!!!

No matter what

No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn’t matter what you do, girl
Ooh girl, with you

No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won’t you tell me what you found, girl
Ooh girl, want you

Knock down the old grey wall
Be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all
As I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be

No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can’t you see it in my face, girl
Ooh girl, want you

Knock down the old grey wall
Be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all
As I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be

No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn’t matter what you do, girl
Ooh girl, with you
Ooh girl, you girl, won’t you
Ooh girl, you girl, won’t you
