            No control

“Eddie Money”, born Edward Joseph Mahoney on 1949 in New York, was an American working class rocker with amazingly husky voice and wonderful hit numbers to his credit. Most famously associated with hit singles like “Two tickets to paradise”, “Think I’m in love”, “Baby hold on” and many more, he succumbed to oesophageal carcinoma on 13 Sep 2019. Although already gone, he shall never be forgotten, for his wild lifestyle, drugs and alcohol addiction and above all, his contribution to rock music.

His self titled debut album in 1977 was a big success with two hit singles “Baby hold on” and “Two tickets to paradise”. His subsequent two albums could not replicate the success of the debut album. However, his fourth album “No Control” in 1982 was the big savior for his musical career. The album had more hits singles and relaunched his musical career for the next decade too. Although the hit singles from the album were “Think I’m in love” and “Shakin’”, the true gem is the rocking title song from the album.

“No control” is one of Eddie’s songs where the rock edge is more than pop rock, so typical of his hit numbers. The song opens with a magical riff by Jimmy Lyon, perhaps one of the most remarkable part of the song. Eddie’s husky voice, and his harmonica glorifies the song, along with Ralph Carter’s bass and Randy Nichol’s piano and organ. The song describing a youth’s reckless life and raunchy love affair, it is exactly a working class youth’s representation. The wonderful solo at the middle and the end part by Jimmy definitely enhances the charisma of the song. With blend of various instruments, for his most loyal fans, the song is perhaps one of Eddie’s best efforts.

At the verge of failure, the song and the album “No control” definitely helped Eddie to control his musical career for the coming decades. Although Eddie had no control over his life, and death as well, the song “No control” certainly takes control over any rock fan forever……  Happy listening!!! Resources- Wikipedia.org, allmusic.com

No control

Well they took me to the hospital
And I swore I would’t go
My blood was running much too high
My heart was much to slow
The doctor had some questions, somethings he had to know
My baby shook her head and said, the boy’s got no control

Well I wasn’t born in trouble
It’s my adopted middle name
When you’re running with the devil
Ya got noone else to blame

He says I’m ok
He might say I’m all right
But, I lose control everywhere
It keeps me up all night

No control
I got no control
You bet I know
No no no
I got no control
Ahhh na na na no control

She always makes me feel so good
I gotta make things right
I’m watching all the boys tip her
And I don’t wanna fight
But I got a temper
That’s one thing she knows
And if there’s some trouble I lose my control

I got no control
I got no control
Ahh no no no
No no no
I got no control
Said no control

I ain’t go no, no, no con trol
(whisper) no control

Ahh no no no no no
I got no control
I got no control
Ahh no no no
I got no control
No control

Ah ah ah
Oh oh oh
No control
Ahh no no no no
Ahh no no no no
No control

I met ya where ya wanna see
And baby baby I’m crazy
I wanna tell ya now
I got no control now

No no no no
No no no no
No control
